NCU was reinstated in Taiwan at Miaoli, as the Graduate Institute of Geophysics of the National Central University. |

NCU moved to Shuanglianpo, Jhongli and became the Science College of the National Central University. |

8000 trees were planted to commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of Dr. Sun Yat-sen´s death. The university´s Chinese name was spelled out using golden Chinese banyan on the roundabout in front of the main gate. |

NCU was officially reestablished with it original name, the National Central University. It comprised three colleges: Science, Engineering, and Liberal Arts. |

NCU built the first satellite remote sensing of ground reception site in Taiwan. |
| 1999 |
ROCSAT-1, a satellite which NCU scientists helped build was successfully launched - a landmark in the history of Taiwan´s space technology studies. |

NCU was selected as one of the major research-oriented universities eligible for government´s special project support. |

NCU joined hands with Chiao Tung University, Tsing-Hua University and National Yang-Ming University in the vicinity to form the "University System of Taiwan". |

The College of Hakka Studies was established as the seventh college. |
| 2004 |
NCU appended The Graduate Institute of Hakka Language and Literature, the Graduate Institute of Hakka Political Economy. |

NCU celebrated its 90th commemoration. NCU obtained yearly support of extra NT$600 million for the coming five years from Taiwan´s Ministry of Education. |
