OffSite Backup

Description

Cybersecurity has been an important policy actively promoted by our government and National Central University has actively introduced softwares/hardwares to enhance cybersecurity for the past years.
On 28th April 2023, an off-site backup plan in collaboration with National Chengchi University was signed by National Central University vice principal, Jen-Inn Chyi, who was accompanied by computer center’s director, Yi-Ming Chen, and division leaders.

The implementation of off-site backup plan was guided by the following considerations:

  • Geographical location, in accordance with the guideline recommended by the government that both locations should be at least 30km apart.
  • Server room environment and equipment.
  • Technical support.

In future, both universities will jointly host a location for implementing off-site backup for important campus systems, and also provide server room resources and technical support in this collaboration opportunity.

19 of National Central University’s core campus service systems were included in the initial implementation of off-site backup plan; such as NCU’s homepage, Portal, Human Resource System, Academic Affairs System, Research and Development System, Student Affairs System, and General Affairs System.
The plan was designed for continuous improvement in areas like coverage to eventually include all campus service systems in off-site backup plan, off-site backup techniques, and efficiency and effectiveness in campus service system recovery in the case of system failure caused by natural disaster or other cybersecurity incidents.
